Technology

While cautiously brooding over the impact of frictionless sharing in our lives, i felt it apt to borrow a leaf from the title of one of the greatest satirical movies of our times about a nuclear scare triggered by the actions of a crazy general. The nuclear apocalypse foreseen due to the policy of MAD (mutually assured destruction) bolstered by the buildup of missiles by proponents during the cold war formed the basis for that satire by Stanley Kubrick.

Well, its the season for predictions and we are on time rolling out our Trend spotting dice for the new year 2012. I saw this list from IBM which predicts trends out for next 5 years !

The Information complex competes with Astronomy in how much bigger its going to get and how far we are going to go. After Petabytes and Exabytes, we have been given the Zettabytes. Interrogations

In our last post on “Why cloud the future of Dropbox and Evernote?”, our simple message was to  dump on certain media bombast projecting the future as a mere extension of current trends. We chose to share a video on Microsoft Vision 2019 that impressed in “Minority Report” style as an evolutionary leap into the future, good enough to shame the extrapolating bots.

Why Cloud the future of Dropbox and Evernote ?

Cloud computing

Here at Zukmo HQ, we are happily jumping through hoops each day trying to solve the problem of information overload which will be an exponential bother in the future. However, the thing bothering us today is the information overload about that supposed future.

Recently we have been noticing online media outlets of certain stripes going viral with their semi promotional trend castings. Overwhelming our embedded tubes are glorified mirages of their slanted visions and thunderous sound bites from their decaying wisdom teeth. So, we decided to pull the wool over the crystal ball and tell it like it might be otherwise. For the techies contemplating and crunching mythical accounts of the future, read on and peep.

Recently we came across these screamers in the headlines about how popular cloud based services will simply continue their windfall ad infinitum.

A Brief Glimpse into Zukmo’s Past

Posted by Kieran On August 29th, 2011 No Comments

It’s difficult to believe, given how far we’ve come, that Zukmo’s alpha launch was just a little over a year ago. With the tremendous pace at which things have been progressing we’ve seldom had the time to sit down and reflect on the events that actually led up to where we are today.

Zukmo’s story really began with our CEO, Sekar Vembu. As a co-founder and business unit head for the now wildly successful Zoho Corporation (formerly known as AdventNet), Sekar’s experience and reputation for excellence truly preceded him when he finally left to found Vembu Technologies in 2004, a now highly acclaimed, award winning backup and cloud storage provider, and also our parent company.

As the leader of a thriving organization in a very competitive industry Sekar did (and still does) a lot of online research to stay ahead of the competition and market. Over the course of the first four years managing Vembu, this pool of information (which he used to make critical business decisions) became increasingly scattered and unmanageable.
