Her’s a small recap of what we’ve learn’t from the bootcamp and what we’ve on plate for web hosting and managed hosting providers for offering backup service to their customers.

Vembu has tremendous experience in serving a channel of service providers and as of today we enable more than 3000 Managed Service Providers in offering data backup service. We understand that it’s important to enable web hosting and managed hosting providers to offer backup service through which they offer true value by protecting customer’s data and also generate recurring revenue

StoreGrid backup software tightly integrates with cPanel and allows backup and restores to be performed at root / reseller / domain user level. This means backup and restores of domains can be managed easily by domains users right from their cPanel user interface.

Integration with WHMCS and Ubersmith allows hosting providers for end to end automation right from billing to provisioning

Granular restores are important when a user lost a file or just a database got corrupted. We also allow full domain restores where the entire domain can be restored fully with a single click

On top of all, StoreGrid supports quicker backups and faster restores which makes it a trusted solution for hosting providers.

and lot’s more…

We allow a 30 day free full featured version of StoreGrid to be downloaded and tested and please contact me at lenin AT vembu DOT com to get your FREE trial today and also for pricing. Our 24 x7 technical support team can help you in setting up and getting you started with the evaluation.
We came to Austin yesterday and had a tiring flight from SFO. I woke up early today, got ready for event and took a cab to the Sheraton Hotel to check-in and registrations. Wait a minute! isn’t the event starting only at 3 PM central? yeah!, we realized that after we reached the venue. To our surprise there were people already buzzing on the lobby wearing T-shirts with some technical names on it (just like us). We had some really good conversations with some of the folks attending the bootcamp.

I have my cPanel TV Live session tomorrow Tuesday 11am CST. I plan to walk through StoreGrid Hosting Edition overview and competitive advantage. I’m joined by Srivatsan Venkatesan from Vembu (Vice-President, Product Management).

As we get in to the final stretch of preparation – I’m really hoping to see many of our partners, cPanel users and of course with our competitive brothers and sisters!

With the StoreGrid’s recent granular integration with cPanel for domain backup and WHMCS for billing and provisioning automation, we headed straight to HostingCon 2011, San Diego to get feedback on these integrations from the hosting community. We personally spoke with more than 150 attendees who mostly comprised of hosting providers, Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and VARs.
With the StoreGrid’s recent granular integration with cPanel for domain backup and WHMCS for billing and provisioning automation, we headed straight to HostingCon 2011, San Diego to get feedback on these integrations from the hosting community. What we got was more than feedback; we received insight into how the industry is shifting. We personally spoke with more than 150 attendees who mostly comprised of hosting providers, Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and VARs. Many of the hosting providers who are currently offering pure hosting services that includes dedicated hosting, managed hosting, shared hosting, web hosting and VPN said they are looking at offering managed services including fully outsourced network management arrangements. During the show one MSP even asked “Hey! Do you see some convergence in the industry between hosting providers and MSPs?” Yes, many of the hosting providers whom we spoke with said they are planning to include managed services as a part of their short term business strategy. Of course there are hosting providers, who already have managed service offerings, but I am talking about pure play hosting providers stretching their business towards managed services and are optimistic about the lucrative opportunity.

So, what does this mean for Vembu? Hosting providers jumping in the managed services market have two major requirements. One is to backup the domains through their hosted control panel and the other is to offer a fully managed backup service for not just the data hosted in their data canter, but also for customers’ on premise data.

Below are some of the recent additions and enhancements in StoreGrid which makes it a compelling solution for both hosting providers and MSPs.

Granular integration with cPanel with the ability to perform restore from cPanel client console

Billing and provisioning integration with WHMCS

Comprehensive reseller management

Support for Disk Imaging, Bare Metal Restore and P2V (physical to virtual) on all windows machines

Ability to backup Virtual Machines (VMware and Hyper-V)

Integration with PSA and RMM platforms like ConnectWise and Autotask

and lot’s more….

We still have a long way to go to satisfy all the needs of both hosting and managed services industry and our team here at Vembu is hard at work to ensure we meet your needs. Soon you will hear about additional integrations and strategic partnerships that will benefit our partners including integration with Parallels Plesk, Level Platforms, Ubersmith etc…With our ever growing partner base it is important for us to understand even a small change in the industry and at any point in time we want our partners to stay ahead of competition. Please let us know your thoughts and needs.

If yes, then that’s what is happening in the online backup industry. With the advent of Online Marketing and Search Engines, people start to plug in their service into categories that don’t fit their core business just for gaining Online Reputation. One such classic example for this situation is the awards announced by the Online Backup Directory for the Jan 2010’s ‘Most Popular Online Backup Company’ category. The results for this award can be viewed at http://www.onlinebackupdir.com/news/ShowItem.aspx?ID=28499.

Now, if you go through the list of companies that received this … Read the rest

Can an Apple be awarded in the ‘Best Orange’ Category? If yes, then that’s what is happening in the online backup industry. With the advent of Online Marketing and Search Engines, people start to plug in their service into categories that don’t fit their core business just for gaining Online Reputation. One such classic example for this situation is the awards announced by the Online Backup Directory for the Jan 2010’s ‘Most Popular Online Backup Company’ category. The results for this award can be viewed at http://www.onlinebackupdir.com/news/ShowItem.aspx?ID=28499.

Now, if you go through the list of companies that received this award, the first and second place for this award was given to RackSpace and SuperbHosting respectively. RackSpace and SuperbHosting are Web & Managed Hosting companies and I am not sure how these companies got through to the ‘5 Most Popular Online Backup Companies’ list. Now this is a clear indication that people who worked out this award don’t seem to understand the difference between Hosting and Online Backup Service. These kinds of awards only mislead the readers with wrong information.

If you would like to know more information on how these companies were selected in the 5 most popular online backup companies, here it is, in their own words, “Our most popular list is decided by the number of votes a company receives and the amount of times their profile page has been viewed each month. This ensures that every month we provide an up to date list of the leading hosting companies.” Just for the sake of gaining online reputation, companies start to sell these ‘wrong category awards’.

Also there was an online backup interview conducted by OnlineBackupDir with RackSpace and guess what, there was not even a single question on ‘Online Backup’. Check out the interview at http://www.onlinebackupdir.com/search/profile.aspx?spid=170 . This is simply childish and hope that ‘Online Backup Directory will correct its categories and award selection process at least in their future announcements.
