Do you think of your Data backup and recovery process as comprehensive?…Think again. Most BDR vendors previously focused on four main areas of trouble MSPs could face while managing clients – hardware failure, security, malware, virus protection and the worst case – human errors. But with the primary focus on these areas, IT departments later bear the brunt of user complaints that their service expectations on RTO AND RPO commitments are not being met.
The fact that online backup has opened the doors for many innovations helps implement backup and recovery at ease. But the problem is we all succumb by adhering only to the ‘bread and butter’ aspect of ‘backup’ rather than concentrating on the recovery solution and providing ‘Minimal Downtime’.
Vendors today talk about pricing models, PSA and remote monitoring management which are all key aspects of a comprehensive BDR service. At Vembu technologies, for the past year or so we have been committed in providing the best possible disk image backup and in the process we integrated many features in our VMware backup implementation such as virtual machine restoration to an ESX server, FLR and a boost in the performance of full backups as well as the incrementals. The incrementals that took hours will now be done in just MINUTES flat! But we didn’t stop there, our focus never diversified from enhancing our product offering through various add-ons such as Labtech integrations, NOC services etc. which were very well received by our partners.
We also know security is the most cited concern of our partners and just because we meet all regulatory compliance requirements we don’t take security for granted. Our features include robust data encryption using AES 256 algorithm, Authentication support between StoreGrid client and server. And the best part of it is that all of these are user configurable.
Hence establishing a comprehensive hybrid cloud backup and recovery strategy include a 24×7 helpdesk support, a status display to monitor backups and a unique partner program which helps a vendor move closer to the values that best serve their purpose.
However i am completely open to debates on my advocacy to the intangible benefits of hybrid cloud backup. While the vast majority recognize its value and are aggressively adopting it at many levels, i think it’s high time we provide a reality check for businesses when it comes to recovery. And do comment on how issues such as recovery and support tend to go around their heads and preclude these SMBs from adopting a core cloud offering?
