Businesses are evolving rapidly because of various fundamental changes in technology and workers at the other end are becoming more depended on the Internet for collaboration. Organizations are becoming more networked both internally and externally making them to adopt a new paradigm of solutions that accolades the usability of traditional content management system. One such whisper in the winds is Cloud Content Management (CCM).

Cloud Content Management (CCM) compliments the traditional Enterprise Content Management (ECM), which represents a crystallized strategy that deals with unstructured content and its access control as it can be captured, stored, managed, archived and delivered.

The focus of ECM relies on controlling the movement of content through preconceived lifecycle or business processes which is not the case in CCM. CCM has emphasis on flexible sharing of active content and does support some simple content centric workflows like commenting and editing on content. CCM also enables easy deployment and rapid sharing of content.

The following illustration will highlight some of the key concepts of Cloud Content Management to compliment ECM.

ECM is mostly preferred where documents and forms are digitized and coupled with business process to maintain records that are discoverable with the help of IT admins. Whereas, CCM is a user complementary approach that is cost-effective, rapidly deployed and helps individuals easily share content across organizations and firewalls because of which the importance of CCM is growing over the days.

So, is the whisper getting louder for CCM or not? Drop your comments or tweet us.

It was an incredible experience where we met many IT executives, MSPs, bloggers and industry analysts. The perspectives we gained from this event were insightful and informative.

Some highlights we took from the event, includes:

More than 50% of the IT execs and MSPs we met wanted to use virtualized environments for disaster recovery in the next 6 months or so. And many focused on speed to recovery or a near-instant failover into their private cloud environments.

Many MSPs want to re-position themselves to offer disaster recovery services with more focus on business continuity and service recovery, not just backup data restoration. Virtualization based Disaster Recovery, in particular, attracted MSPs as it allowed them to perform rapid disaster recovery shrinking the CAPEX required with traditional DR.

Looks like MSPs these days talk less about traditional backup and discuss more about business continuity services to their SMB customers. Infact, many indicated that they are making changes in the backup infrastructure to accommodate for the introduction of image based backups into their process and are actively moving business critical applications (such as MS Exchange, SQL, Kaseya Server etc) to disk based backup solutions.

Based on number of backup vendors this year at Kaseya Partner Pavilion, it was obvious that more and more MSPs are keen to offer cloud-based disaster recovery and online backup services to their customers. Also, for vendors like us the market is getting hot and extremely competitive.

The industry is now increasingly in agreement that virtualization will redefine the SMB data protection landscape, but there is still some debate around what exactly is the right architecture for these BDR platforms which could handles today’s expectations for an always-on environments.

We think we at Vembu have a compelling recipe for addressing the technical and economic barriers encompassing the complete backup and disaster recovery requirements in complex SMB physical and virtual environments through multiple deployment options for MSPs. You can take a closer look at the latest release StoreGrid 4.2 to learn more on how we solve the recovery piece of the puzzle.

Thanks so much for your continued support and patience. Based on your valuable feedback, many new features are added and we firmly believe that this new release will bring more benefits to your business!

Here’s a heads up for what’s in store in the new release:

Support for Parallels Plesk – The much awaited integration of StoreGrid with Parallels Plesk’s web hosting control panel will support a domain level backup and restore capability. Initially, the Plesk integration will be available for Centos OS.

Multiple Storage Location – Using this feature StoreGrid will be able to utilize multiple storage volumes simultaneously and facilitate multi-tenant storage infrastructure as its backup data store.

High Performance Incremental Backups – An outstanding performance improvement will be noticed for large incremental backups with StoreGrid’s support for Inotify. With it’s integration with inotify module, what took 10 hours for an incremental, will now take just 1 hour for the same incremental.

Support for Windows Machine Backup – The Hosting Provider Edition’s OS support has been extended for Windows OS as well. StoreGrid will now support backup of Exchange, SQL, SharePoint and MySQL servers.

Support for VMware Backup – StoreGrid Hosting Edition now supports backing up multiple VMware images from a single StoreGrid agent installation. The agent can be installed in a standalone machine or in one of the VMware’s VM itself.

Improved Performance of cPanel Dump Process – Another milestone performance improvement, this time for the cPanel dump processes. Users will be able to see a 5X speed up in the dump processes of Account Settings and MySQL database in cPanel which in turn will result in faster cPanel backups.

Enhanced Integrations – StoreGrid seamlessly works with cPanel, Parallels Plesk, WHMCS and more.

We at Vembu, are driven by feedbacks and requests from our customers and partners. The earlier edition of Hosting Provider Edition v 5.0 had primarily targeted the needs of managed hosting providers.
The Challenges

The advent of virtualization and cloud technologies has changed the Backup and Disaster Recovery (BDR) picture dramatically in the SMB space. Managed Service Providers offering backup services face a greater challenge to provide Backup & Disaster Recovery Solution which is not only automated completely but also reliable and flexible to the ever growing demands of their business customers.

The Solution

Due to increase in virtualization and cloud technologies adoption, Service Providers need to identify a Backup & Disaster Recovery solution which offers high-performance backup with multiple restore options to cater to different categories of customers. They also have the onerous task to lookout for a product which constantly improves to meet the emerging data protection and disaster recovery needs of evolving businesses.

The StoreGrid Benefit

Vembu StoreGrid offers a compelling recipe for addressing the technical and economic barriers to broaden Cloud Backup and Virtualization based disaster recovery adoption in SMB. In particular StoreGrid attracted SMBs as it allowed them to perform virtualized disaster recovery shrinking the CAPEX required with traditional DR.

See a real MSP talk about all this and more of his experiences of solving the challenges with StoreGrid in this video case study.
