Lyrics of da rap intro to da Cloud

.

We had a couple (two, to be honest) of requests for the lyrics of our Cloud Cloud Maybe video. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for?

8,670 people can’t be wrong. That’s how many views its got on YouTube alone.

The lyrics? Here goes…

CLOUD CLOUD MAYBE

Yo ISP! Let’s vaporize it
Cloud cloud maybe (x2)

All right stop. Virtualize and listen
This cloud is hot – infrastructure invention

This trend is grabbin’ hold of us tightly
We’re blogging and debating daily and nightly

Is it really hot? Yo, I don’t know
but scalin’ … Read the rest

I Feel Good

Why? Three reasons

Reason 1:

TechCrunch just reported that Google was experimenting with new minimalist designs. It feels good to say we saw this coming and said so in an earlier post on why Google will kill the I’m feeling lucky button. Like we said, it’s all about the money, honey.

Reason 2:

We (finally) got StoreGrid v3.0 out of the gates. It’s a real beast! Take it for a spin if you haven’t done so already.

Reason 3:

We’re this close to announcing “Vembu Home”. Its iPhone inspired UI is miles ahead of anything you’ve seen  (talking of … Read the rest

Whatever as a Service – the only ready reckoner you’ll ever need!

tennisI planned to write this post some months back but never got around to it! TheVARGuy’s recent post on Desktops as a Service (DaaS) provided the required impetus!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware of the many ‘as a service’ acronyms floating around – from SaaS (Software as a Service) to BaaS (Backup as a Service – you could say, that’s what we enable our channel partners to do) to Desktone’s recently trademarked DaaS.

Want to get on the aaS bandwagon but don’t know where to start? Here’s a handy primer to help you scintillate … Read the rest

Should you seed your backup? Ask Wolfram Alpha!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months or mistook it for a new version of Wolf, you’ve probably heard of the Wolfram Alpha engine and the (wrong) comparisons to Google.

For starters, Wolfram Alpha is NOT a search engine – its (what they call) a “computational knowledge engine” – it generates output by doing computations from its own internal knowledge base, instead of searching the web and returning links.

Slight detour to StoreGrid…

StoreGrid has a feature called “Local to Remote Migration” (LtoR) wherein you can ‘seed’ a backup server with the 1st full … Read the rest

Carbonite (and Mozy’s) Achilles heel

Online backup service provider Carbonite has been in the news for some time now. They were recently in the news for the wrong reasons. Hot on the heels of the Belkin fiasco , “biased reviews without disclosing affiliations” are getting a hard rap on the knuckles!

The Weakest Link for Commodity Online Backup services

The objective of this post is not to debate on companies’ marketing tactics (that too from 2 years ago – I’m not sure if that’s really relevant now) but to point your attention to something else that’s indeed relevant…

Sometimes, we have a VAR/MSP who uses StoreGrid to offer online backup services to … Read the rest

Why we are impressed with EMC

I should say I am seriously impressed with EMC. I am talking about their announcement of a new subsidiary called Decho, which combines the two acquisitions they had made in the last one year: the online backup services startup, Mozy, and the Personal Information Management startup, Pi Corp. When EMC acquired Mozy I had thought EMC would use Mozy’s technology to come up with some cloud storage initiative for the enterprise and the mid-market segment. I also felt that would take away Mozy’s focus on consumer and small and medium business segment. Of course, it was probably wishful thinking … Read the rest

Backup Services are No. 2 on SMBs list, says VAR Business Magazine

Online Backups are booming

The September issue of VAR Business has an interesting article on the “Top 5 Tech Segments SMBs Will Spend Money On”. While the first segment mentioned is Network Security, Backup & Archiving ranks number 2. Online Backup Services are especially mentioned and the article says:

Online backup services is also an area where resellers are starting to see increased interest in the SMB market, and vendors are now better enabling resellers to offer such services as part of their managed services portfolios—opportunities that can help them lock into recurring revenue streams.

We recommend that you read the article; … Read the rest
