Does a hosting company deserve ‘The most popular online backup company’ award?
Can an Apple be awarded in the ‘Best Orange’ Category? If yes, then that’s what is happening in the online backup industry. “G-Drive is here”; “G-Drive is on the way”.
Rumors are all around for the much hyped ‘G – Drive’. Initially people said G-Drive will become a part of Gmail and will help the users to store emails, documents and pictures etc. Now it all turns to ‘Google Docs’ as the Google Docs Product Manager Vijay Bangaru announced the storage options.

Prevention is Better than Cure

Pardon the cliche. In the context of data, backing up is ‘prevention’. Shipping your mangled/wet/smashed/puked on hard drive to a data recovery company is ‘cure’.
I came across an interesting story from the ‘cure’ side of the data protection business. eWeek is running a slideshow feature based on Kroll Ontrack Data recovery’s compilation of the top 10 data disasters they saw in 2009. But it is good news for all those laptops that are backing up online…
G.Y.M. is short for Google, Yahoo & Microsoft. The three companies seem to be in the midst of a flurry of FREE WiFi announcements. Here’s stuff that came through from G.Y.M. in the last 48 hours:

Wave to me
Today I felt like a kid with a new toy – a new toy that was temporarily out of stock (and so my friends couldn’t get at it…yet).
I got a Google Wave invite!
What’s Google Wave? You’ve either been living under a rock or even worse…you have a life!
Anyway, Google Wave is a new product/service form Google that is currently in “Preview Mode”. Preview mode seems to be the mode before Google goes into a never ending Beta. Google Wave aims/claims/hopes to usher in a new way (wave?) of communicating.
